Google Forms


Take a few minutes to share what you think about Google Forms. How could you use them in your classroom? What are some ways that you think you could use them to help get yourself organized? What are some possible uses with both of these tools with your students? Do you think you will use Google Forms to conduct surveys and collect information?

Please share a link to the form you created in your reply. If someone has already shared a link please take a moment to fill out their survey. You will be able to see the results in a spreadsheet in Google Docs.

  1. I loved this! Last year, some teacher friends and I were interested in having our students write surveys to hear what the community felt was needed as far as service projects. I wish I would have known about this! There are so many ways to use this in our classrooms. I love the idea of using them for book responses, student exit forms, and even just getting to know students at the beginning of the year (which is the form that I created). They are even simple enough for students to use themselves.

  2. I need help with this one. I have explored the documents with all the ideas and I like the idea of using them to create KWL charts. I did one for our first theme of the year which is apples. It was really easy to put together and very attractive looking. To do a survey for kindergarteners I would like to add visuals. Am I able to do this in Google Forms, any ideas or tips?

    3. I went to check the link and it is loading in spreadsheet form instead of with the background. Anyone know how to convert it back?

      On the spreadsheet you need to click the "Form" tab then select "Edit Form." That will take you back to the actual form.

  4. Is there a way to edit the survey form once you publish the form. I realized after looking at my published survey that I forgot to ask for their name and some of the questions should have been given another choice - all of the above.

  5. Absolutely! Go back into Google Docs. It will probably be right at the top since it was the last doc you worked on. Click on the name of the form then hover over the button that says Form. When that menu drops down you will have the ability to edit the form.

  6. Great tool, I can see myself using this tool quite often. Since I’m the website coordinator this would also be a great asset to go paperless, especially for our ladies in the administration office. I can see us creating forms for parents and students to use on our website. In the classroom atmosphere this would be a great assessment tool, from reading comprehension to chapters quizzes. In my DL classes I use something similar – Exam View, which is compatible with the Moodle site. This is just another tool to my arsenal.

    1. The uses for Google Forms are infinite. What is great is that you can publish the spreadsheet if you like so others can see the results or you can give certain people access to the spreadsheet. For example, all of the who enroll in an online class through my school are enrolled using a Google Form. As soon as their information is entered on the form I receive a notification that the spreadsheet has been edited. All of the teachers have access to this information, but it is not linked anywhere for others to see.

      I have has students write test questions for a review and then submit them to a Google form.

      I always collect information during the first week of school from students....phone numbers for them and their parents, email address, etc. I have them enter it on a form then I link to the form in my Moodle course. I make the link invisible to students, but it makes it very easy for me to access when I need it.

  7. I like how easy it is to use and respond with Google Forms. Our district began using these sparingly last year with moderate success. I think that in order for our staff to utilize these, they would have to be forced into using them more often so that they would get used to them. Once they see someone else using them and see how easy they are to create and gather responses, they would be much more likely to start using them.

    I think that I may actually make one up for the library to request new books for possible purchase. I really would like to get some of my teachers started on these with textbook checkout similar to the one I created for this project.

    1. Just a thought on your form. I noticed you have it set up for students to enter their last name then their first name. Students and many adults rarely follow directions to the letter. I have found it works well to have one box for their first name then another box for their last name. This way it is always correct and it makes it very easy to alphabetize the spreadsheet where all of the data is saved.

  8. I have had a lot of experience using Google Forms. I use several of them for collecting information about members, and future members of an organization I am part of.

    I think a use in the classroom would be for collecting general information about your student, or doing student surveys.

    I don't see this as an organizational tool, but more of a data collection tool. Yes, it will help you to get all of your information in one location for analysis later, and you don't have to chase paper, but it can be tough to organize the columns, and if you move things around in the spreadsheet things don't always go into the right columns.

    I believe I recall hearing that Google fixed some of those issues with the columns. I know what you mean about it being hard to move the columns. I think the trick might be going back into the spreadsheet after you are finished making the survey and making sure the columns go in the same order as the questions.

  10. This is an amazingly versatile tool. In the readings I most enjoyed the "80 Ways to Use Forms" (or something like that). But I created my form before I did the readings.:-(

    I will use this immediately, I know! But I don't understand either how to show the formatted version, rather than the spreadsheet, which looks like a splendid way to tabulate the results. Maybe I didn't spend enough time there; I'll have to go back.

  11. A google docs is something that I will love playing with. There are so many things that could be created. I see creating parent surveys and student assessments.For this assignment I created a welcome - get to know you student survey but I also want to make a parent questionnaire to find out how to best keep up communication through out the year. Later in the year students are asked to create a survey so that they can chart responses. I usually do not have great luck getting the students to follow through with getting the results back so maybe this will work better. Question - Is there a way to save the survey with an easier link? I can see this being difficult for my students to get to without help. Here is my welcome survey

  12. I have used google docs a lot and I think it is great..I've made forms, used it for spreadsheets to share, surveys, keep databases, presentations and more!

    I am not a teacher, but a technology person, so I love sharing these ideas with staff.

  13. I think I will like Google Forms. My former district technology coordinator used them, so I have seen these before. I created a form that hopefully my district will use at the beginning of the school year. There are so many forms that parents fill out and it seems all that ever gets done is a checkmark for turned in forms. But what about the information on those forms? As a teacher and sponsor there are definite times when contact information would be very helpful. By using this on-line form the information is put in by the parents and easily & quickly sorted to find the information needed.

    I can see using this as an alternative to some homework assignments. While I could create worksheets and quizzes in Moodle, Moodle is not always easy to work with and students would not have to be enrolled in a Moodle course to access the forms. The challenge will be to get my technology coordinator to create gmail addresses for all students. But I think/hope this will be an easy persuasion. I can also see using forms for Bell Ringers and Ticket Out.

  14. You are at Bayard, right? Access should be pretty easy. As soon as students get a Moodle account they will automatically have a Google account. I hope they will make Gmail accounts available for students, but even if they don't you will still be able to use the other Google Apps with them. http://portal.gnenc.org/web/bayard-public-schools
