It has happened to all of us. We are at home and find a great website so we add it to our favorites. But when we go to retrieve it in the future we are on a different computer. Arrgh! Enter Diigo. This application allows us to store our bookmarks in the cloud so they are always accessible no matter where we are or what computer we are using. Diigo can allow us to do so much more than simply store and share our bookmarks, but since we only had a couple of hours to devote to this fantastic tool that was the focus of the activity.
Now that you have had the chance to explore Diigo take a few minutes to share what you think about it. How do you see yourself using it in the future? What are some ideas you have for how you could use it to help get yourself organized and to possibly share resources with your colleagues?
Diigo is a great way to organize and share professional websites. I foresee myself either using Diigo or Ning to share professional ideas and materials. I love the search ability of Diigo. It will make it easy to find things year after year. The list feature is a great way to divide things into subjects and /or units. I am still not incredibly comfortable with twitter. Until that comes I don't think I am able to use Diigo to its fullest potential.

I'm so glad that Tim went into this today. So much more clear and user friendly today. I now understand what the term "Social Bookmarking" means. So much more clear today and user friendly!
DeleteI used to use Delicious when it first started, but ended up abandoning it for some reason. I like the community and group portions of Diigo. It allows for networking in a way that I didn't find on Delicious.
ReplyDeleteDiigo has done a great job of integrating into Firefox with the toolbar-everything you need is just at the touch of a button. I love the dropdown menus that allow you to find your bookmarks. With Delicious, you had to log into their website to find them.
When I think about how I can share resources with my colleagues, I am now thinking more globally and realizing that my colleagues aren't necessarily in my building or even my district. The community and group portion of Diigo will allow me to connect with my "colleagues" in a way that I have never done so before.
I like the idea of having the bookmarks on what ever computer I get on. The list will make it easier for my anal mind set that needs the websites in their own pile. It will make it easier to find a site which in turn will let me use it more and save time from trying to search forever for it. I also like that if I find a website without meaning to I can just use the toolbar to save it my just signing in and not having to go to the diigo website
ReplyDeleteCool idea. Glad that we went through this one today with Tim.
ReplyDeleteI had been looking for a way to keep my bookmarks for school, work, and personal organized so I could get to them everywhere. Was thinking about a Google doc to do that. But with Diigo, I can just go there and it is all saved. Now to move a bunch of bookmarks on 3 different computers over.
There is a way to move them very quickly. If you have trouble let me know.
DeleteThis is another tool along with Evernote that will help me be more organize. I have websites jotted down everyhwere. When other teachers ask about a website I it will be easier to share.
ReplyDeleteI love Diigo because you can access it anywhere you have Internet access and not just limited to your own computer. Also the cool idea to share material and information is a great resource tool. I think my colleagues would really benefit from this social media device. The sticky note and highlight feature are great add-ons to transmit information to students and teachers. I will definitely use this tool quite often. I’m a bookmark junkie.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was going through my master’s program I used I Keep Bookmarks. It was great for putting bookmarks in the cloud. I’m not sure why I abandoned it (I think it was because of the separate log-in & I didn’t have Internet at home then-so only used one computer most of the time) and now I can’t get access because the e-mail I used no longer exists. Because I now have Internet access at home putting bookmarks in the cloud will be very handy. It never fails, I am on the computer at home and the bookmark is on the computer at school; or vice versa. Now that won’t be an issue. I believe most of the teachers in my district would enjoy using this tool. But bookmarking is only part of the features. I think I will like highlighting the best, but maybe sticky notes will be more my style.
