Google Calendar

Once you have had a chance to explore Google Calendar please take a few moments to share your thoughts about it. In addition, share at least three ways you could use it as a teacher.

  1. I think of all of the tools that I have seen through this class, google calendar is probably the one I should use the most! I like how you can connect the calendar with your computer and your iphone, because I never know which one I will have with me and it is nice to know that I won't have to wait until later to add something to my calendar.

Because I am the school librarian as well as a tech team trainer, I find myself making meetings during teacher's planning times to train them and having those trainings in my google calendar that will alert me and email me will be a huge help in keeping me more on task and organized. I also do stuff with our performing arts center and by being able to import others calendars, I will be better able to plan when I need to be there. I haven't tried this yet, but am excited to see how it works!

The third thing that I think will be most beneficial to me is allowing others to see my calendar. It sounds like I may not have a para all periods of the day and I won't know when I will and won't, so it would be nice for the teachers to know when they can expect me to be available and when I won't be.

I think that this will be the most useful tool for me in the long run!

  2. Tyler Kleager here, still having trouble with my log in for my other account.

I use Google Calendar all the time. Without, I would be pretty lost in my day to day activities.

As a teacher you can post assignment dates, and share them with the class.
You can also use it to invite people to your events, so you could invite all your parents to your open house, or class play.
You can also create different calendars within the main calendar, and you can give them different colors, so you can have one color be for class projects, another color for school meetings, and another color for school events.

  3. We use Google Calendar on the school district website. I use it to check on activities going on at all the schools in the district.

I plan on using Google Calendar for my indivdual school so parents can see activities and assignments going on at Extension. I think it would also be great for students to use for their own to keep track of assignments and activities.

  4. A great organization tool, I have used it in the past for class assignments and projects. Recently our school district has updated the webpage software so it has a built in calendar. Google Calendar is just another great web based tool that students, parents, and teachers could use to enhance the learning environment. I might use it for my football team dealing with practice and scheduled events. One thing that impresses me is the attachment feature, where you can add an attachment or file from your Google drive.

  5. I do like Google Calendar and I am not opposed to using it, especially when it is used by the district (a former district used it). But when my current district uses a different calendar and I have a calendar on my iPod and the three of them don’t work together... well, for my personal use I’ll be sticking with my iPod. There are many uses for the calendar: school functions (games, open house, p/t conferences, etc.), inviting people to events/school functions/meetings and due dates for assignments/projects.

  6. Google Calendar is impressive, it wished me a happy birthday before my husband even remembered. ;) Beth showed me an easy way to link my outlook account at work to my gmail account, now I won't have to enter things in twice. I like that I can use it on my phone. It is easy to enter events and edit them. I like that things can be set as all day and you can pick when you want to be reminded.
